ARE ALL I HAVE EVER KNOWN
Witnessing child birth was . . . hardly a delight. Yet when the child was born, there was a renewed hope among them. The child was the first born among the rebels; born as a free person. It was something rather incredible; something that everyone felt their hearts swell at. Though times were difficult, the fact that this baby was born absent the shackles of slavery, was truly a beautiful thing. And Agron had been present to witness the glory … despite how, unpleasant the actual witnessing was.
But alas, it produced a child. One that was currently cradled in Agron’s arms while the mother slept. He was unsure what compelled him to take such a role, only that he was drawn to make offer. The baby looked so tiny, so fragile in his larger arms. And just as he was compelled to hold it, he felt all the more compelled to protect it from the clutches of the fucking Romans. Agron was standing outside the tent, close enough that the mother need not fear should she awaken.
"You are free little one," Agron began to say, a smile upon his lips. "To choose your own path, and be whatever heart desires." His voice low, but sincere. For there was a strong joy in that. Agron lifted his gaze when he saw a woman approach. One now discovered to be among one of Crassus’ former slaves. His expression sobered a little, but it was impossible to be angry at anyone while holding such a beautiful, innocent little life. "His mother sleeps," Agron explained, to Kore.

" As she should." A cold tent with a dirt floor was hardly an ideal place for child birth. She'd delivered infants in the slums of Rome, in rooms without windows or running water, were three or four families slept together- so she was well aquanited with the complications a poor enviroment could have on mother a baby. " He needs another clean blanket. What are my chances of finding one here?" Kore bore no ill will to the German though knew better than to hope for the same from him. He would end her life, as Spartacus would, with ease if provoked.

ARE ALL I HAVE EVER KNOWN
Agron listened to the woman speak of requiring an extra blanket for the baby, his mind racing over the possibilities before reaching an adequate solution. He stepped towards her to hold out the baby for her to take. "I will return," he said as he quickly left, and ventured to his own tent. He took his blanket, knowing that Nasir would have one enough to remain warm with and returned to where Kore stood, helping to wrap the blanket around the baby.
"It would appear that chances of it were fucking good," he said in jest, though there was no joviality in his tone. "What else would he require?" Agron asked, feeling the need to offer whatever they could to the baby to ensure it's survival. For as previously thought in Agron's mind, this baby marked the beginning of a new generation of freemen.

" You would serve him better by ensuring his mother recieves enough food. She will require much engery to produce the milk he will need soon." The baby's first feeding had been successful warlier but Kore worried what would happen if food became scarce and the woman's milk ran out. " I did not take you for a care taker of children..."

ARE ALL I HAVE EVER KNOWN
Agron listened attentively to Kore's words of care for the mother. He may not trust her for shit, but her care for the woman and baby seemed genuine. Otherwise, why aid with the birthing. Still a sight that Agron wished to unsee. "I will ensure it," he promised. Even if it meant cutting his own rations.
This was what Spartacus ha aimed for them; to start a new life. To mark a new hope. And this child, was to be protected at all costs. Her next words pulled him out of thought, his mind going back to Duro and having practically raised him. Though, when their parents had passed, he had been well beyond the stage of a new born baby. "I hold no experience in such care taking," Agron told her honestly. "Unlike you it would seem." For she appeared to hold much experience in such things. More than anyone else here after all.

Kore placed the bundled baby on its back in a basket. " Yes... I have cared for many babies in my time." She'd seen thirty-six years in this life and for twenty of them had brought many a little life into the world. " When qill the babies father come for it? Will he not present the child to sun's light?" Having grown up in Rome, Kore expected proper ritual performed. The father would take the child to a window and look at it in daylight, examining the child for any weakness. If the baby was found unwanting for any reason, a necklace a crepundia, would be placd around the baby's neck and the child would be left outside, with the rubbidh to die or be taken by another family.

Agron watched her as she placed the baby back in the basket, now bundled with additional warmth. Though, that would not be the only obstacle they would undoubtedly be faced with in the coming days. The war still upon them placed everyone at risk. A child born free . . . Agron would not let it be short lived by condemning him to a life of fucking slavery.
Though, he knew that there was much that was out of the rebels control at this point. He instead, focused on the woman's question regarding the father. "The mother spoke no words in mention of a father," he explained. "It would appear that mother is sole parent for him." Which, would make things more challenging for her but as it was already obvious . . . there was a number of people who wished to offer aid in caring for the baby. Agron included.

" Poor child." But it seemed this child stood as a symbol to the rebels, so perhaps he would be well looked after. " i will stay with the child if you require rest."
