Some acts cannot be avoided when stripped of choice or clothes. E verytime the Gladiators went to battle, Melitta feared for them. Watching the fight made it no easier to bare. In fact, it was cringe worthy most of the time. Especially considering Melitta's own . . . aversion to violence. But alas, they had no choice. Everyone did what they must and all she could do to aid them was offer prayer to her gods. To find quiet moments so that the others in the house would see to better, kinder days. Ones where they were not taken too soon from this world. But watching the match upon the sands, left her stomach turning, especially where those were involved whom she held particular affections for. Though she dare not speak them.
Being Lucretia's primary slave had her at her Dominus' side, and thus, watching as Duro took to the sands, suffering injuries that she could have sworn caused her heart to skip a beat in pure fear of watching. He was victorious, and while Melitta found herself able to breathe in relief, she still wished for him to be unharmed. A foolish wish; considering he was a Gladiator. When it was over, they made their way back to the villa, Melitta offering to tend to those who had returned and both masters held no objection to this.
Taking a bowl of water and a cloth, along with some medicines that she could easily administer, she made her way to the designated room where Duro was seated on the bed board, waiting. Taking a slow breath and composing herself, she entered with items in hand. "The medicus will attend to you shortly," she explained to him. She could at least do something as simple as clean his wounds. "Until then, I would tend to your wounds in what ways I can," she told him softly. Seeing him wounded always caused her heart to ache, the only solace was that he was yet breathing; that he was still of this world.

It had not been the easy fight he had ever been in, but it had not been his hardest, either. However, it had been bad enough that it ached much to move and he was not sure how much blood on him was his and how much belonged to his now dead opponent. When Melitta entered the room, he did his best to sit up straight, trying to ignore the pull that such action caused on his wounds. Each time he saw her, he wanted to reach out and pull her close, yet he stayed his hand. The way he was drawn to her was something that he did not quite have the words for and he did not want action to cause misunderstanding. He would forever hate himself if he stepped or spoke wrong and he offended or distressed her in anyway. She was strong in her ways, but even the strongest could be harmed by careless thought or action. His mother had told him of this lesson long ago and it was one of the ones that he held dear to his heart. In fact, of everyone around him, there was only one who knew of the way his eyes and mind followed the kind and beautiful woman -- and his brother would never betray his care. "Gratitude, lady," Duro said softly, trying to be respectful to her and kind all at the same time. "My wounds are as nothing. How do you fare?"It was a question he asked each time he had cause to speak to her. Whether it was true or not, imagining that it made her feel a little lighter to know he cared about her days and actions made him happy. Melitta

Some acts cannot be avoided when stripped of choice or clothes. W hen Melitta saw Duro move to sit upright, she wanted to extend her hand to gently urge him back to a relaxed position. Not wishing to see him over exert himself in the wake of his injuries. She gave a small nod as he expressed gratitude, then dismissing his injuries and asking how she was. "Why do all you Gladiators share the same neglect for your injuries," she said with a continued smile, teasing affection in her tone.
She moved closer to him, setting the bowl down and dipping the cloth into it, start to gently wipe away any of the blood that remained close to wound, being as tender as she could against the sensitive flesh. To be so close to him, made her heart flutter, but she kept herself composed. Especially when dealing with such a delicate matter. "I fare far better than you," she told him. "I lay witness to the match in the arena that caused such wound." She dipped the cloth in the water, pausing for a brief moment before continuing with her actions of wiping the blood. "It was cause for great concern," he admitted, purposely avoiding eye contact with him.

I've wasted time, I've wasted breath Duro shrugged slightly -- or tried to. He didn't know if there was any real reason that the other men tried to hide their injuries from others, but he knew very well why he always dismissed his wounds and injuries when Melitta was around.
"Perhaps it is because I would not wish to be one who added to any distress you may feel, Melitta." he said quietly and honestly. "It is not neglect, but respect. You have worries enough and it would be wrong of me to show you mine, as well."
He never thought that he was good with words, even though most people said he knew how to cast a pretty phrase. However, he knew that when it came to this woman he would take any wound silently if it meant that she had a little less to think about.
"It was not one of my worst fights."
It was not one of his easiest, either, but he saw no reason to mention that.
