.:Birthplace:. Rome .:Family:. Wife bane of his existence .:Occupation:. Noble, solider serving in the Roman military .:History:. Valerius was born into a very prestigious family. Because he was the sole child and son, he was pampered and doted on by his parents. This had him develop a sense of entitlement, often only keeping to elevated and equal company such as himself. His family was well known for their wealth and political minds, as his father served on the senate, and his father before him. Valerius chose a different path, one where he enlisted himself as a Roman soldier. It is expected that one day he will carry on the footsteps of his father and one that practically has remained tradition in his family, so he continues to be bred of politics. Fearful that Valerius would lose that connection, a marriage was arranged for him with the daughter of a close family friend and fellow senate member. Valerius had no choice but to wed her and this, was where things drastically changed in his life.
He held no affection for the woman and it made him resentful. This resentment turned to a long lasting bitterness where he and his wife would feign that all was well in the public eye -- mostly his wife for Valerius' demeanor showed no favor towards her -- yet at home, they clashed. Severely. Valerius often did things to provoke her and she often splurged on his wealth and found ways to aggravate him or take notice of her. The greatest instance, when she purchased a gladiator from a nearby ludus. Valerius held no investment in the games prior, but his wife chose to sponsor a gladiator, pay for his upkeep, and bring him to their villa every so often to spark jealousy and annoyance in her husband. Valerius would have ordinarily ignored such a thing, but his interest in the other male took a turn that even his wife could not have anticipated.
