Fata viam invenient
TAG: Agron. WORDS: XXX. NOTES: NOTES HERE
The ludus should've been quiet so far after nightfall, yet Dilja could still hear voices; some from fellow gladiators, some from above, along with muffled footsteps. She cared little for that. It was a mere question of time until he'd pay them a visit as well. It was told that a ludus in Capua had fallen, taken over by a rebellion of gladiators. Spartacus was their leader's name. The rain bringer. Famous among them all.
There was a tension...it could be cut with a butter knife. They were scared, so she assumed. The dominus. The dominas. Because they knew...Spartacus would come and end them all. And again, she didn't care. She'd learnt to take whatever life served to her. There wasn't much she could do, aside from staying alive. She'd become an expert at that.
Resting on the hard bench that served as a bed, Dilja crossed her arms behind her head, watching the pale light of the moon as it drew long lines upon naked stone walls. She couldn't tell how much time had passed since she'd been captured by Roman soldiers. They'd sold her to this ludus eventually: one of the few that also trained and used women. From that day on, training sessions had been followed by fights in arenas. Already as a girl, she'd learnt how to use daggers and sticks. Now she could wield large swords, spears, shield that were taller than her.
Was this life? Some didn't think so. Dilja, however, didn't waste time with such useless questions. Life as folks knew it...that'd ended a long time before she'd been caught. She'd lost it all that day so long ago. Back when...
Dilja shook her head, forcing the memories back into the dark corner of her mind where they belonged. She'd learnt how to survive back in the days when she'd been on her own, lost in the wilderness, with only her own bare hands and bits she'd learnt from her brothers. Keep going, she'd told herself.
Keep walking. Hunting. Eating. Sleeping. Breathing. Living.
Dilja closed her eyes, trying to get some rest before she'd have to rise and pick up a training sword upon the sands of the ludus. She was about to drift off when the sudden increase of voices dragged her back to the present.
