blood and battle
ARE ALL I HAVE EVER KNOWN
It had been a long shift, but finally … it was coming to an end. The fact that Agron would hopefully see Cétan tonight was what helped him get through the long hours of work. His feelings for the other continued to develop and strengthen the more he got to know Cétan. Agron wasn’t sure he had ever felt this way about another … and so, grew eager at the thought of seeing him. Though, he kept this to himself. He wasn’t one to overly discuss his partners in front of his coworkers. They were indeed like a second family to him, but some things were just too intimate to share with others.
His thoughts distracted him from the conversation, as he and one of his fellow fireman were in the room meant for sleeping, gathering their things and tidying it up as they neared the end of their shift. The hand to his forearm was what pulled Agron out of his thoughts and brought him back to the present. "Sorry, what?" He asked, now focused on the other male. Agron had been working with him for some time now, and was what the German would consider a casual friend. He was asking him out for drinks, though Agron knew where he would rather be.
"Maybe some other night." Was as best as Agron could decline, not thinking much of it as he resumed to packing his belongings. He felt more than saw the other male shift closer to Agron. The guy tended to get in his personal space a lot … and seemed to be rather touchy feely. They had a good rapport though and Agron had not thought much about it. Not before this moment, when he felt the other take hold of his arm – or maybe he had never actually let go, turning him and pressing his lips against Agron’s. The shock of it caused him to abruptly still, frozen in place, while his mind belatedly caught up to what was happening.

Cétan was elated. He’d spent the morning charming the old ladies at the public library with rudimentary questions on internet usage. It was likely they thought the young man was flirting when in reality he really was that sheltered. Nevertheless, he was able to pick out a bus schedule and take a field trip to Aggie’s firehouse for what he’d hoped would be a pleasant surprise. His lips stung as he was constantly biting at them, attempting to keep his euphoric smiling to a minimum. He wasn’t sure but there might have been a few people on the bus that assumed he was mentally insane. In a way he supposed he was. Thinking straight had become incredibly difficult to do since Aggie had arrived in his life and it certainly didn’t take much to turn him into a malleable pile of goo – especially when Aggie smiled at him. Standing outside the station, Cétan slowly drifted back to reality. He took a deep breath and trudged through the doors. The building was busy with bodies rushing here and there as shifts ended and other shifts began. Looking a bit like a lost lamb, Cétan enlisted the help of a kindly receptionist to take him into the back to surprise Agron. Despite his constant smile, Cétan’s heart beat like a war drum and threatened to burst straight out his ribcage. This was unlike anything he’d ever done before and he prayed Aggie wouldn’t actually be annoyed with him. Would this be a happy ambush or would it simply label him as hopelessly desperate? He chomped on his lips once more, this was not the time for cold feet. “He should be back here,” the receptionist murmured as she opened the door to the sleeping quarters, without knocking Cétan noticed. Overjoyed, he tilted to see around her shoulder, unprepared for the surprise he would receive in turn. His smile soured as he watched the scene unfold. It was like time had stopped. A million emotions floated by him. He was somehow able to both observe every little movement between Agron and… the other and also take note of the kind receptionist retreating down the hall, mumbling that she didn’t really see anything. After what had seemed like an eternity of some.. one touching and leaning into and… kissing Agron, Cétan’s brows shifted low over dark eyes as he cleared his throat. “Aggie,” his voice sounding much more stern than he felt.

blood and battle
ARE ALL I HAVE EVER KNOWN
The shock was enough to prevent movement; enough to not be quick enough to act. It … wasn’t right. It didn’t feel right. Not like when it was Cetan’s lips pressed against him. Cetan. The moment the name entered his mind, the door opened and he heard his voice. Agron felt as if his heart was going to burst out of his chest, his hands moving to the other male and lightly pushing him back enough to break contact while taking a step away from him. Agron’s head jerked to the side to look at Cetan … knowing he had been caught. Knowing that this wasn’t what it looked like. The need to defend himself instinctual, but he preferred not to have this conversation in front of his coworker.
"Cetan," Agron breathed, his eyes fixed on him, fairly certain that the other firefighter had said something. Which Agron completely ignored. Eventually he turned to him, briefly. Only to say words of departure. "I gotta go," he hastily stated, grabbing his bag and making his way to the door, pausing when he was close to Cetan, reaching out to gently touch his arm. "Let’s go somewhere. To, talk." Agron wanted Cetan to know that he intended to explain this; he owed the other an explanation after all. And all Agron could do was desperately hope that Cetan gave him a chance to do so. He wasn’t about to give up on him; on them.

Cétan was frowning. His face stony and obviously irritated, his dark eyes wavering, shimmering and reddening, threatening to betray the cold anger that anchored him to the floor. It was that same anchor that held fast even as Agron gently encouraged him away. No doubt Agron had a wonderful excuse to explain away scene he’d just witnessed, but Cétan had other things on his mind and instead kept his gaze locked and loaded upon the unwelcome third wheel. The man was handsome to say the least, broad shouldered and well built. He had a strong jawline, a prickly chin, a slightly crooked nose that may have been broken at one time, bright baby blues and a perfectly proportioned head topped with blonde curls. To put it bluntly, the other was everything Cétan wasn’t: tall, confident…manly. The boy worried his lip between his teeth as he often did when nervous and after taking his dear sweet time assessing the other, he finally turned back towards Agron. He kept his eyes downcast, knowing he’d instantly forgive the giant oaf if he saw the pathetic face Agron was showing him. Instead he noticed Aggie’s large hand still keeping in gentle contact with him. “… Is he your type?” He mumbled. “Are you attracted to him?” Cétan thought about his own slender limbs and shy demeanor, wondering if Agron wouldn’t be happier if he were more experienced and extroverted. Maybe he could work out and build up some muscle… But before Agron could answer the third wheel scoffed, a crooked smile breaking up the symmetry of his face. “I guess you are seeing someone after all, though I never thought you’d be robbing the cradle. He’s pretty. Has he always been a boy?” Something inside Cétan snapped. Something he hadn’t even known was there. Cétan was sheltered. He’d lived 21 years in relative isolation on an Indian Reservation. He certainly wasn’t used to such sharp words and it felt like the giant calm bubble he had spent his life building had been popped. Aggie had no real warning or else Cétan was sure he would have tried to stop him, but in the blink of an eye Cétan had launched himself across the room and used the entire weight of his body to slam into the blondie and shove him backwards into the lockers. The action seemed to catch Cétan by surprise as much as it did his victim and after they both tumbled to the floor, there was a moment of pause in which the boy had no idea what to do next. For the first time in his life he had let anger control him and he couldn’t figure out why. It seemed logical to issue an apology, even though deep down he really didn’t want to. Pushing the man down actually felt good, nevertheless he opened his mouth to speak and only to receive a heaping taste of blood and a sting to his cheek where the other man had punched him.
