i wake at the first cringe of morning and my heart's already sinned When the captain opened the door to the cabin she was in, Sura was waiting for him. She did not throw anything at his head or attempt to run past him. She did not need the gods to show her that such things would be foolish. She was curious as to why he had gone through such trouble to retrieve her, but as long as she was alive and not beneath some Roman cock she was grateful. When she heard his question, she had to smile.
"I have never referred to myself as such and neither have my people," she said honestly. "However, I have heard Romans accuse me of being a witch among other things."
Sura saw no reason to lie to this man. After all, if he was asking the question, the he obviously knew something of her powers and who she was.
"My name is Sura."

Name: Sura Guest type: She works as a fortune teller on the ship. A short summary of who they are in the modern world: Sura has always been something of a free spirit. When she was born she talked to people who were not there and she just always seemed to know things. With that kind of ability, getting jobs as a "spiritual assistant" just seemed to be a natural fit for her. It brought in money and it was a lot of fun to try and aid people.

i wake at the first cringe of morning and my heart's already sinned Sura wasn't surprised when the Roman soldiers and their companions above decks started screaming and cursing. She had seen this attack coming and though she had warned the soldiers that they would not make it their shores with her as their prisoner, they had dismissed her. In fact, they had done worse than dismiss her, they had tied her to a bed below decks. And when she had looked at them quite calmly and told them that they would not live to see their Roman shores, their captain had backhanded her across the face.
Sura did not react to that violence, nor the pain that it caused. These dogs wanted her to cower and beg for her life, yet she would not. Though she had not seen her fate clearly in the visions from the gods, she was not frightened. If she lived, she lived and if she died, well, she would die. She would rather die at sea at the swords of pirates than with the collar of slavery about her neck in some cursed Roman villa.
She was Thracian and she was a vessel of the gods. She would not beg and she would not show fear.
So when the man that she perceived as the pirate captain entered her would-be prison cell covered with blood and ash, she was not surprised.
When he ordered her taken to his cabin, she was not frightened.
She was silent and calm as they untied her and moved her about the sinking ship, slinging her over one of their shoulders to carry her across to their own vessel.
She knew she should have questions, and maybe she did. However, at the moment, she was merely curious about what the gods had in store for her now.

A man must accept his fate or be destroyed by it Sura was finding that it had gotten easier to breathe the more days that they were here in this land. It felt nice to actually get a full night of sleep now that the visions were not riding her hard at all hours.
When Ruari had come home to her unexpectedly and helped her defeat her attackers, something had shifted in the air around them. She had just known, even before the first vision from the gods had sent her to her knees, that something dreadfully wrong was about to happen unless they took to their feet and kept going.
There were times that her beloved husband wanted to stop and make her take rest -- and rest himself -- but Sura couldn't allow it. The Red Snake was coming and getting too close to her husband for her liking. Every time she thought that maybe they could take more than a few hours of rest at night, blood would explode behind her eyes and she knew she had to keep them moving.
It was on the fourth day that her frenzied condition finally made Ruari lose his control and demand to know what the gods were doing to her that caused her to run herself into the dirt.
"What could be so damn fucking important that I am to watch you like this and do nothing to aid you or try to stop the pain you are in?!"
"THEY TAKE YOU FROM ME!" Sura finally screamed out, her voice a pained sound from a throat that had not used such a tone in a long time. "I will die in blood betrayed and you will be a weapon that they seek to hone and turn on their enemies, yet you would destroy all that you are in attempt to take them to their knees all for love of me!"
It was the thought of her death that kept Ruari from protesting her urgings that they keep going; keep running.
Sura lost count of how many days they traveled, only that the gods were directing her feet in the correct direction to go to. It was after she had finally collapsed and lost consciousness and her husband was on his last legs trying to carry her that they were found.
Germania. A land she had heard of, but had never expected to see. Agron and his brother had found the two of them in the wilderness unconscious, near to death, and had brought them back to their home. And when Sura had finally awoken to her senses again, they had not laughed off her story, nor had they turned the two of them out on their own. When Sura had gotten a clearer look at her rescuers, she understood why the gods had driven her in this direction.
Two lives saved. Two souls not taken over by vengeance, blood and despair.
Hearing someone approaching her, she turned her head slightly to let him know that she was aware and accepting of company.

| ~ • ~ | Character Basics | ~ • ~ |
.:Name:. Sura .:Nick Name:. Prophetess .:Affiliation:. Slave/Rebel
| ~ • ~ | Appearance | ~ • ~ |
.:Physical Appearance:. Sura is thought to be extremely beautiful -- especially by Spartacus. She has long wavy dark brown hair and blue eyes. She has some muscle tone but is still very slender and feminine looking. She is pale but can tan if she spends time outdoors -- which she does enjoy doing. .:Height:. 5'7" .:Portrayed by:. Erin Cummings
| ~ • ~ | Personality | ~ • ~ |
.:Personality:. Sura was gentle, but forthright in her dealings with people. She doesn’t lie or disassemble, but she will sometimes try to do her best to soften her words or the messages from the gods that she was directed to relay. She cared for others, but not at the cost of herself and her ability to do what was needed. She is a very diplomatic person and can calm the temper of her husband easily — as well as most others she has dealt with. Even without her powers and the voices of the gods, she was shown to be very intuitive, wise and psychic.
She was always faithful and loving to her husband, and was able to help guide him on correct paths more than once. Even though he didn’t always believe in the gods, Sura’s faith and knowledge led him to trust in her and therefore accepted (sometimes) what the gods wanted him to do or achieve.
She had a deep respect for the free will of others — even if she didn’t think that they were making the best or wise choice. She believed very strongly that no matter what others wanted of a person or what she foresaw, everyone was free to make their own choices and walk their own path.
Sura was also strong-willed and very resourceful. To her, there was nothing that was ever impossible to achieve or accomplish.
.:Special Skills:. As a Prophetess of the Gods, Sura had the ability to foresee the future in dreams, and was therefore wise, intuitive, and psychic. She has also been shown to be a remarkable fighter and can use a sword as she once defended herself against multiple attackers before Spartacus showed up and helped her kill the last ones.
.:Weaknesses:. Some of Sura’s weaknesses are not readily evident. She’s very empathic to people and that can cause her sadness and distress at times. Sometimes, her visions can overtake her at the most inopportune times. They do not always wait until she is in a safe place or in a place where she can lose focus and let down her guard. She can also be determined to help in a fight, even if she is tired or weak from exhaustion or the effect of her visions. As caring and wise as she is, she can be stubborn about not paying attention to her own weaknesses and can easily get overwhelmed by her feelings/emotions.

.:Birthplace:. Thracia (Maedi)
.:Family:. Ruari (Spartacus), Husband (If/when we get a Spartacus player, I will be happy to change this!! It just didn’t seem right that Sura would’ve called him that when she was personally thinking about him.)
.:Occupation:. Prophetess, Seeress, Sometimes healer
.:History:. Sura was born in Thracia and is of the Maedi tribe within Thracia. (Maedi are different than the Getae people in Thracia as these two branches are sworn enemies.) From an early time it was known that Sura was a direct link to the gods as she received messages and gave advice from them her entire life. She was valued among her people because of this — and it made her feel incredibly useful among her people even before she had the strength and experience to do the day to day jobs and responsibilities that every person had.
Even so, Sura’s usual duties even as she was older was to help and comfort the people in her village and then in the different settlements of her people.
Among these people the gods had her search out was the man that would later be renamed Spartacus by the Romans but whom she knew as Ruari. (If/when we get a Spartacus player, I will be happy to change this!! It just didn’t seem right that Sura would’ve called him that when she was personally thinking about him.) Thanks to the gods, Sura knew that she would one day wed with Ruari as she fell in love with him shortly after meeting him — even though at that time he was a well-known womanizer. However, Sura allowed him to “seduce” her, as she knew that once he was with her the first time, he would never love another woman his whole life.
When the Romans arrived to ask the Maedi tribes for their help against a large enemy of Rome in the Thracian area (also thought to be the Getae), Sura was worried about it, but she knew that her husband would not only agree to help, but that he would encourage many of the Elders and young warriors of the tribes to assist the Romans and in return they would get assistance in protecting their home villages from Getae as well. She didn’t want him to go as she had seen many disturbing images and knew that terrible things would come to pass for him… and for them. Even as she begged him not to go, she knew that he would go because he thought that it was the right thing to do — and for the surety of his belief of Sura’s safety if he did so.
Before Ruari left for war, Sura cautioned him to be careful as she had seen a great many disturbing things in her visions. Before he left, he tied a garter to her leg on her thing and she encouraged him to “Kill them all.”
Little is known of Sura’s actions during the time that Ruari was gone to war with the Romans against the Getae, but it is assumed she went about her usual duties and habits. As she was an important member of the people, she was probably quite busy comforting others with messages and dealing with any visions she was receiving. She made sure to keep herself busy so as not to worry about her husband too much. She stilled worried about him, of course. This man was the love of her life and she couldn’t not worry. However, her visions showed her that Ruari would have a greater destiny than any he had knowledge of.
At some point, a large number of Getae attacked her home village, with four of them breaking off to attack Sura where she was in the tree orchards. To the shock and surprise of those men, Sura was no damsel in distress and fought like a wild animal to defend herself. She killed one man, badly wounded another and then when she was facing off against the last two men, it looked like she might be in trouble, except that Ruari suddenly appeared out of nowhere and assisted in killing the last of the attackers.
Unfortunately, after her fight was over, Sura was distraught to hear the screams coming from the village that was an indication that the larger group of Getae were decimating the village. Ruari correctly deduced that he and Sura could do nothing to help their people, but they would be able to escape and find another village to warn and assist.
That never happened like the couple wanted.
They spent that night after they escaped with Ruari filling Sura in on what had happened and why most of their men had left their posts. Sura was concerned because the visions she had seen about her husband came to her for a time after that, but Ruari did his best to reassure Sura that he would never lose her, nor she lose him. They spent a night together reacclimatizing their bodies and souls with each other and started to make plans for the next few days.
They did not get the chance to see those plans to action.
The next morning the couple was awakened by Glaber and the rest of his Romans as they attacked and separated Ruari from his wife. That was the second to the last time that Sura saw her husband as she was then sold into slavery, supposedly to Syrians.
The last time Sura saw her husband was when she died in his arms — thus setting her husband onto the path the gods had revealed to her.
