Varro gave a bit of a smirk at Spartacus' words, rhetorically questioning as to whether he ever partook in such things. "You often cause me to believe the impossible," he said teasingly, the irony of it. That Spartacus performed fucking miracles; one such miracle perhaps being that he actually engaged with the others. But Varro felt grateful that he was not. Even if he was not in the best mood, his dear friend's company would always be welcome. Though the next question was a little more difficult to answer.
"Thoughts of a disloyal wife," he said as casually as he could, his eyes scanning over the crowd though not really looking at them. Merely for the distracting and preventing his emotions from getting too strong. "Ones set to rest, yet wounds still fucking sting," he further explained, attempting to smile. "What lays in the mind of the Bringer of Rain on such a night?" He asked, wondering what Spartacus was thinking of since the man always seemed to be thinking.

Varro was not in the best of moods today. Usually he would enjoy the company of wine and his fellow gladiators, especially when celebrating a victory such as this where everyone indulged. But Varro was not of the mind for it. Even for dice which the others tried to lure him toward. He had found out not long ago that Aurelia had left him for another and it had made Varro feel less than . . . pleased. He had known it would take time to repay his debts and that this would be strenuous on his family. But still. He had not quite prepared for the emotional repercussions.
So instead, he excused himself from company, seeing Spartacus near the door as well. "You do not partake in the celebrations?" He asked, though Varro supposed he should have expected that. His dear friend was not one to engage in such thing. Even still, Varro had a couple cups of wine . . . he wondered if his friend had any at all. "If not then you find yourself in good company," Varro added, revealing that he was not of the mood and would much prefer leaving. Spartacus was probably his best friend here and therefore, one who's company Varro would never reject. The two had formed a bond early on. One that only strengthened with time.

Varro was unsure if it was because he was simply a light sleeper, or if the stresses of his debts were foremost on his mind. What he did know was that hearing the faintest of sounds stirred him. It wasn't quite a cry, but it was a small whimper that immediately prompted him from bed. Slowly. Carefully, so not to wake his sleeping wife. He made his way over to the small crib for him and reached down to scoop up Janus his arms. He truly was his father's son. The bright blue eyes and small curls that were starting to erupt from his head. Varro had always hoped to hold so much coin in his hand yet with a baby in his arms, he felt to be the wealthiest man in all the world.
He glanced at Aurelia, a smile forming on his lips as he quietly stepped out of the room. Their house was small, only consisting of a single bedroom, a living area, a tiny place for cooking and a table with some chairs for food. He sat on the wooden sofa, made comfortable with a couple pillows, and gently rocked Janus in his arms. "Let us not wake your mother," he said in a quiet voice, glancing down with the utmost pride in his baby boy. "Though I suppose if it is food you require, choice may be stripped of us," he said with a smile, leaning down to kiss his son's cheek.

.:Birthplace:. Capua .:Family:. Wife: Aurelia , son: Janus , Spartacus: brother of heart .:Occupation:. Citizen, Gambler, Slave, Gladiator, Corpse .:History:. Varro was born into a humble family, and had a simple upbringing. He was loved and cared for and that was all he ever needed. These were traits that would carry on with him once he started a family of his own. His parents both passed away due to illness and the sudden loss of them, sent Varro into a deep seated depression. It was here that he commenced his ways of gambling, finding only fulfillment in what winnings he could muster. His debts grew but not substantially, and could have been managed, had he not become over ambitious. Meeting Aurelia, he had found the love of his life and they were eventually married. But whatever job Varro held, he felt it wasn't enough to provide for her all that he wanted.
So he returned to his ways of gambling. He became more and more reckless, especially when their son was born for he wanted a better life for Aurelia and Janus. Eventually, the debt became too much and collectors came to well, collect. Demanding repayment, plus interest. It got to the point where Varro could not make payments and he grew more desperate when threats were placed on not only his life, but his family's. Varro was faced with two options: to flee Capua and live a life in shame with his family, or to sell himself into slavery. The honor he held had him choose the latter, and he became a Nexus slave, selling himself as a slave and joining the house of Batiatus.
